Research

NEON (NeuroEndocrinology, Obesity & Nutrition)
is a group of young scientists committed to the study of neuroendocrine and dietary aspects of obesity and diabetes research. Our scientific endeavors focus on the (patho-) physiology of energy homeostasis, including:

•  the detailed characterization of rodent models for genetically or environmentally induced obesity,
•  gut hormone-brain interactions as drug targets for "diabesity", and
•  the differentiation between essential and redundant pathways regulating energy balance in the central nervous system.

The NEON research team is located at the University of Cincinnati's Obesity Research Center (Department of Psychiatry, Genome Research Institute, OH, USA) and at the Department of Pharmacology of the German Institute of Human Nutrition (Potsdam-Rehbrücke, Germany).  In addition to the research projects in Cincinnati and Potsdam NEON enjoys numerous collaborations with academic and pharmaceutical industry based laboratories.
NEON offers an advanced infrastructure and leading expertise for detailed phenotyping of rodent models and obesity drug testing.
